Above All Others

 â€¢ Series: Planted & Flourishing

In this Bible class led by Roger Potter, the focus was on the Book of Hebrews, particularly the first two chapters. The discussion centered on how the writer of Hebrews presented Jesus as the supreme suffering Savior, superior to angels, prophets, priests, and kings. The class began with an exploration of Hebrews 1:1-4, which emphasizes that God now speaks to us through His Son, Jesus, who is the exact representation of God's being and sustains all things by His powerful word. The class highlighted five key points from Hebrews 2:10-18: 1. Jesus is the perfect pioneer of our faith, qualified to be our Savior, and not ashamed to call believers His brothers and sisters (Hebrews 2:10-13). 2. Through His suffering and resurrection, Jesus defeated the devil's power over death, removing the fear of death for believers (Hebrews 2:14-15). 3. Jesus made atonement for our sins, serving as a merciful and faithful High Priest, replacing the old system of temporary sacrifices with a complete and sufficient sacrifice (Hebrews 2:17). 4. As a human, Jesus experienced life and temptations like us, but He overcame them without sinning, making Him a sympathetic and understanding High Priest (Hebrews 2:18). The class emphasized that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies and is the fulfillment of the old law. The Old Testament should not be dismissed or ignored as it points to Jesus and has valuable lessons for understanding Him better. Overall, the Bible class underscored Jesus' supremacy and His role as the only way to approach God, serving as the ultimate Savior and High Priest who sympathizes with believers' weaknesses. Participants were encouraged to approach God's throne of grace with confidence, knowing that Jesus is the mediator between them and the Father. The class concluded with an invitation to continue exploring the Book of Hebrews in the upcoming sessions.
